Childrens Work : Mrs. Jones' Class

Dear Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome back after the Easter break. I hope you all had a great time. I know that some had a brilliant time building snowmen over the Easter weekend, my children did. How funny seeing snow at this time.

Well, this is the term when there is lots going to be happening, not least of all the end of Key Stage 2 SATS for Y6 children. I know it must be really daunting for them but I have every confidence that they are going to shine and make themselves very proud of their achievements. To see how these children have grown over the past two years has been wonderful for me and I am extremely proud of all of them. Over the next few weeks building up to these tests, we are going to be working very hard revisiting what we have learned over the past few years and trying really hard to bring all that knowledge and learned skills together. Don't forget Y5, this is just as important for you too. You will be taking your Optional SATS papers at the same time as Y6, starting on Monday 12th May.

In Geography we are linking our work with the whole school topic of 'Homes, Habitats and Contrasting Localities.' We will be using our skills to find information from maps and atlases; begin to recognise where we are situated within the United Kingdom and how this locality can differ from other areas. Later in the term we will go on to compare where we live to the seaside village of Robins Hood Bay near Whitby and use maps to plan how we could get there as well as places we could visit once we had arrived.

Within our Art and Design topics this term we are looking at how artists have painted still images and how they create feelings, moods and movement in their work. This in turn will encourage the children to produce work on their own in the style of these different artists. During the second half term we will be looking at slippers, what is their function, how are they made etc. Children will have the opportunity to design their own slippers with a particular person in mind and hopefully go on to make them too.

In RE this term we are focusing on important people in the Christian faith, what their responsibilities are, as well as looking at the church building itself. How is this building used and what is it used for? We will move on to look at special celebrations, such as weddings, in different faiths and cultures and how they compare and differ. Perhaps you will be able to recognise some people from the display board outside our classroom over the next few days. I wonder who they could be!

Next week we will all be taking part in Crucial Crew, travelling up to HMS Forest Moor, Harrogate. I am sure we will all have a really good time. Later on in the term, the whole school will be taking a trip to Harewood House too, thanks to all the dedication and hard work of the Gardening Club last year in Bramham in Bloom. Perhaps we should give Filey a miss this year. What do you think?

On Tuesday 15th April, we will be holding parent and child meetings for Y6 with both myself and Miss Richardson and on Thursday 1st of May, I will be meeting with the parents and children of. However, as always, don't hesitate to call in or phone for an appointment if you have any problems or concerns that I can help you with.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Jones.
